It is reported that since August 9 is Singapore's National Day, many sellers sell T-shirts with the national emblem on platforms such as Shopee. This move was considered illegal by the relevant departments and was required to be removed.

The spokesperson said that according to the National Symbols Act, the national emblem is limited to government departments, and no materials or items with the national emblem may be sold or offered for sale without legal authorization.

The authorities have relaxed the regulations through the National Symbols Act that came into effect last year, allowing citizens and companies to use national symbols more widely to express patriotism and solidarity.

Under the new law, citizens and companies can use the national flag for decoration or commercial purposes during the National Day from July to September without prior approval. The government also allows citizens to use the national flag pattern on clothing during non-National Day periods, but not for commercial purposes.

The law also gives the relevant authorities the right to issue a cease and desist order to individuals who disrespect the use of the national flag, national anthem or pledge to correct improper practices. Failure to comply with the cease and desist order will constitute a crime. The maximum penalty for violating the National Symbols Act is a fine of up to $30,000, jail time of up to six months, or both.
