A recent study by Shopee Malaysia showed that 98% of respondents believed that local shopping helps strengthen and uplift underserved communities.

This highlights the sense of national pride and unity among Malaysian consumers, they said in a statement yesterday.

The government's "Sayangi Malaysia, Jom Rai Lokal 2024" study of more than 2,000 shoppers ahead of Malaysia's 67th National Day showed that Malaysians are five times more likely to support local entrepreneurs than international brands, reflecting Malaysians' strong commitment to local businesses.

The company's head of marketing and business intelligence, Tan Ming Kit, said supporting local products and services helps promote Malaysia's heritage, strengthen communities and boost the economy.

"Supporting local businesses is more than just buying, it's an investment in our communities and economic future," he said.

The survey showed that 90% of Malaysians trust local sellers to efficiently fulfil orders and handle inquiries, highlighting the reliability and service quality of local businesses and strengthening the connection between consumers and local brands.
