It is reported that more than 100,000 entrepreneurs have joined Shopee Malaysia this year as e-commerce plays a growing role in Malaysia's digital economy.
Tan Ming Kit, head of marketing and business intelligence at Shopee Malaysia, said the growth of local entrepreneurs on the platform this year reflects their embrace of digital opportunities.
He said Shopee Live's 113% growth in new seller live broadcasts in 2024 showed its growing importance in Malaysia's live commerce sector.
"The e-platform's interactive features, ease of use and real-time feedback enable local entrepreneurs to connect with customers, build stronger relationships and expand their influence, with more than 1.4 million live broadcasts and more than 27 million unique reviews from users this year," he said in a statement.
Khairul Azman, founder of Selangor-based hair care brand Petals Malaysia, said its products are no longer limited to being sold only in retail stores.
“We have successfully sold over 26,000 units of halal hair dye ‘Hair Dye Shampoo’ through Shopee Live, a platform that facilitates real-time interactions and drives sales, and enhances the shopping experience through features such as live voting and Q&A sessions,” he said.
The “Sayangi Malaysia, Jom Rai Lokal 2024” study also revealed a 65% increase in the number of Shopee Live sellers from the east coast of Malaysia, and depicts the platform’s success in expanding the reach of businesses in less urbanised regions and supporting entrepreneurs nationwide.
In addition, Shopee’s top 500 local businesses grew an average of 50% year-on-year in 2024, highlighting the platform’s effectiveness in driving business expansion.
This growth also reflects the strength of the Shopee ecosystem in supporting local sellers to innovate and grow.
“Shopee is committed to supporting Malaysian businesses through resources such as affiliate marketing solutions, third-party logistics services and Shopee Live, helping local entrepreneurs succeed in the competitive e-commerce market,” said Tan Ming Kit.
