YouTube shopping has officially launched in Vietnam, allowing content creators to attach Shopee links to their videos and earn commissions on products sold. The new feature includes adding a shop tab on the channel, tagging items in videos and live broadcasts, and pinning products during live broadcasts.
Through these tools, users can connect their Shopee stores to YouTube, introduce products and link products from other brands in their content, while also using YouTube analytics to monitor the performance of tagged products.
E-commerce experts believe that this move provides content creators and sellers with more locations to operate, increases revenue sources, and reduces dependence on a single platform. KOL Nguyen Quyet pointed out that this TikTok-like add-on shopping cart feature will make users' shopping experience more convenient because they can purchase products without leaving the video page.
Previously, YouTube and Shopee have launched similar online shopping services in Indonesia and plan to expand throughout Southeast Asia. According to YouNet ECI, the total consumption of major e-commerce platforms in Vietnam reached 873.7 trillion VND in the second quarter of 2024, showing a strong growth trend.
Among them, Shopee occupies a dominant position, while TikTok Shop follows closely behind, showing a rapid growth momentum. These data show that the online retail market is becoming the focus of competition between Shopee and TikTok Shop.
The cooperation between YouTube and Shopee has further intensified market competition, and it also indicates that more e-commerce platforms may try similar cross-border cooperation in the future to attract more consumers and expand market share.
