It is reported that the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN) has found that 66,000 businesses operating on e-commerce platforms have failed to comply with tax regulations.

LHDN said in a statement on March 4 that this was discovered through the submission of electronic invoices containing details of individuals and companies operating through e-commerce platforms since August 1 last year.

"The inspection also found that these businesses had no record of submitting income tax returns," the statement noted. A total of 4 million electronic invoices were issued by these 66,000 businesses. LHDN urged these businesses to update their tax records as soon as possible and ensure full compliance to avoid enforcement action.

As of Monday (March 3), about 196 million electronic invoices have been issued, covering voluntary participants in the first, second and third phases. In addition, LHDN reminded that the grace period for taxpayers in the first phase ended on January 31, and they must fully implement the electronic invoice system in accordance with the guidelines from February 1.
