According to foreign media reports, recently, the Philippine Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) agents arrested two Chinese nationals for allegedly illegally selling pre-registered Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards in Parañaque City.

In a statement issued last Friday, Major General Nicolas Torre III, head of the Philippine Criminal Investigation Group, said the suspects were found trafficking 170 pre-registered Globe and Smart SIM cards, an act strictly prohibited by Sections 7 and 11 (g) of Republic Act No. 11934.

He added that by selling pre-registered SIM cards, the suspects were able to evade the SIM card registration requirements and the procedures of presenting valid identification documents, certificates and photos or faces.

The suspects were charged by the National Prosecutor's Office for illegal possession and misuse of pre-registered SIM cards, and the Criminal Investigation Group said it would persist in combating all forms of crime and illegal activities.

"We are steadfast in enforcing the laws of the country and are committed to catching all criminals, whether they are citizens or foreigners. We warn all criminals to stop their illegal activities because CIDG means business," Torre said.
